Meet the Artist
Sophia Buddenhagen is a Houston-based artist and graduate of the University of Houston, where she earned her BFA. Her work is vibrant, playful, and filled with joy — blending bold colors, layered textures, and expressive movement.
Inspired by her love of nature, surfing, and skateboarding, Sophia’s paintings reflect the beauty and diversity of the world around her. Having lived in Egypt, West Africa, Europe, and the West Indies, her art carries the energy of her travels — each piece a story of exploration, emotion, and connection that transcends any single culture or place.
Sophia’s process is rooted in experimentation and freedom. She combines acrylics, ink, watercolor, spray paint, and oil sticks to build texture and depth, allowing each piece to unfold naturally. The result? Artwork that feels alive — sometimes wild, sometimes calm, but always deeply human.
Beyond the canvas, Sophia is dedicated to giving back. She works with at-risk teens, using art as a tool for expression, healing, and empowerment. Her career also spans international recognition — her pieces have been featured in IKEA, Ashley Furniture, At Home, I.O. Metro, and Living Spaces, among others — but her heart remains right here on the Texas coast.
